Antoine Pisano

A passionate and persevering exploration of humanity through fifty years of observation, research, and contemplation — guided by deep emotions and an unending quest for understanding, despite whims, anxieties, and solitude.

Born in 1953 in Moûtiers, Savoie, Antoine Pisano is of Corsican origin, and it is in Bastia, on the land of his ancestors, that he now lives and works. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Grenoble, he settled in Nice, where he spent a decade immersed in the city’s vibrant artistic scene. Then came the time to return to his roots — a deep grounding where, as he says, his wings finally came to rest. Today, the artist lives through his painting, and through it, his history, his memory, and his silences.

For a long time, Antoine Pisano kept his works in the shadows, as if he needed to tame time — to wait until the world was ready. “My paintings, sometimes harsh, needed a time of acceptance,” he confides. Today, he reveals with humility a singular universe, one traversed by mystical forces, ancient myths, and a faith deeply anchored in the sacred.

“Fifty years of observation and research, amid noise and silence, through whims, anxieties, and solitude — chosen or not — in an attempt to understand humankind. All my work naturally flows from an emotion, an impression, or even a question…”

For him, the act of painting is instinctive, guided by deep inspiration. Oil, watercolor, drawing — each technique allows him to explore the shadows and lights of the human soul. Mythological figures such as the Minotaur (special mention from the jury at the 10th Azur Biennale in Cannes) or Bacchus are summoned as living archetypes — powerful, and sometimes unsettling. His passion for the vine and wine also led him, in 2001, to publish the book *La Vigne et le Vin, regards d’artistes et d’écrivains* — a testament to his deep attachment to these symbols of abundance, life, and spirituality.

The sacred emerges everywhere in his work. *Pius XII*, *Saint Sebastian*, *The Recumbent Figure*… Pisano explores faith with gravity but without dogma. He seeks what connects, what uplifts. His Corsican heritage, deeply imbued with Catholicism, nourishes this constant quest for a bridge between the visible and the invisible.

A traveler at heart, he discovered New York in 1998 and created a striking painting from that experience, stayed in Milan in 1990, and exhibited in Nice, Marseille, and Ajaccio. His work has received numerous distinctions, including the Bronze Medal from the Académie des Arts-Sciences-Lettres in 1986 and a Certificate of Excellence at the International Art Competition in New York in 1988.

Today, Antoine Pisano continues to paint with the same intensity and commitment. Nature, humanity, and spirituality remain the pillars of his work — elements he strives to reconcile. And if harmony has not yet been achieved in the world, it exists at least in his paintings — like a silent prayer or a whispered truth.
