Xiaoxia Yang

Chinese artist born in Shenyang, Xiaoxia Yang belongs to a generation of creators who combine academic rigor with creative freedom. A graduate of the Printmaking Department of the prestigious Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, she is now a professor and master tutor at the Shenyang University of Fine Arts, where she shares her knowledge and passion with new generations. But Xiaoxia Yang is far more than a dedicated teacher: she is an explorer of forms and sensations, a poet of color, a disciplined dreamer.

Mastering printmaking as well as oil painting, watercolor, pastel and drawing, Xiaoxia has developed a multifaceted body of work at the crossroads of traditional Chinese art and a contemporary sensibility turned toward the universal. Her works, exhibited in both China and France, have been shown in museums as well as in collective contemporary art exhibitions, notably in Nice, Saint-Paul-de-Vence and La Gaude. There, she unfolds a universe that is both orderly and free, structured and vibrant, where nature always plays the leading role.

For Xiaoxia Yang, creation is a visual melody. “Pictorial creation contains the melody of music, which is the symphony of life,” she likes to say. Each painting is a composition, a breath, a burst of color. Green often dominates, evoking meadows, foliage or shorelines. Shades of orange, blue and pink settle like delicate notes, held in a perfectly balanced harmony. The viewer is invited to see whatever they wish: a moving sea, a gentle eruption, a secret garden. The artist opens a world but never imposes it. She suggests more than she shows, triggering an inner journey within each person.

This artistic gesture, which appears fluid and instinctive, is in fact rooted in extreme precision. Nothing is left to chance. Every stroke is placed with intention, every shade considered like a note in an invisible score. Xiaoxia Yang paints with her hand, of course, but also with her heart. “Putting one’s heart into the work” — the French expression finds its full meaning here. Through her paintings, Xiaoxia conveys a deeply positive energy, anchored in her love of nature, of living beings, of the world. Her art is intuitive, luminous, joyful without being naïve, reminding us that beauty, too, is a form of resistance.
