Valérie Péraud

Art Collect - Valerie-Peraud

Born in 1976 in Paris, Valérie Péraud is a visual artist shaped by her journeys elsewhere. A passionate traveller, she explores the world as a contemplative observer. In 2005, upon returning from a trip to the Himalayas, she felt the call of creation as an undeniable revelation. Marked by the landscapes and spiritual traditions she encountered, she decided to transform her emotions into artistic matter. From then on, her painting became an intimate language — a way of expressing the world as she feels it: powerful, fragile, ever-changing.

At first, Valérie Péraud devoted herself to collage — the art of fragments and assembly. She cut, separated and recomposed images collected from magazines, patiently and precisely constructing compositions that sought to rebuild meaning out of chaos. This practice deeply influenced her artistic approach: she has retained this desire to bring harmony out of apparent disorder. Composition, for her, is a path toward balance — a way to give visual meaning to the fragmentation of perception.

Gradually, painting took over. It seeped into the collages, overflowed their edges, and eventually claimed all the space. Valérie Péraud then made a natural transition toward a more pictorial universe. Her painting — often created on medium and large formats — explores a vibrant in-between, somewhere between figuration and abstraction. She works with acrylic, oil, ink and sanded mortar, using material to give weight to emotion. Shadows and light collide, colours and textures confront one another in a palpable tension. “When I paint, I feel as if I am walking on a tightrope,” she confides. Balance remains a challenge — a constant vibration.

Valérie’s sources of inspiration are many: her travels, of course, but also inner landscapes, poetic resonances and the tensions between body and mind. Each piece is inhabited by this movement — between gesture and thought — that gives rise to a kind of choreographic painting. She paints with her whole body, in an energy close to dance, as if the canvas were becoming the stage for a sensory ritual.

Her visual universe summons enigmatic figures, dreamlike architectures and shamanic presences. One encounters tree-women, mental cathedrals, paths of silence or fire. These representations, suspended between reality and imagination, evoke a symbolic world at the crossroads of the fantastical and the sacred. Her collages continue to exist alongside her paintings, inhabited by shamans — mediators between the human realm and the invisible.

There is a raw poetry in Valérie Péraud’s art — a blend of fervour and delicacy, mystery and clarity. On her canvases, skies are tormented, materials wounded or caressed. The brush is at times a blade, at times a feather. Each painting tells a journey. A passage. A story without words yet full of sensations. By exploring the disorder of the world and that of the soul, Valérie Péraud invites each viewer to rediscover, in turn, their own line of balance.
