Steffi Rodigas

Born in 1958, Steffi Rodigas is a German painter whose reputation extends far beyond her country’s borders. Her atypical journey, marked by a radical life change at the age of 58, reveals a rare inner strength. In 2013, after a first trip to New Zealand, everything shifted: “I carved my own path to freedom,” she recalls. She left her previous life behind to devote herself entirely to art. From this transition emerged a powerful, sensitive and committed body of work, driven by a deep love of nature and animals.

Steffi Rodigas has developed a unique style, both realistic and abstract, which she calls ART in ART. This personal technique blends oil, acrylic and watercolour, subtly playing with textures, materials and the vibration of colours. She also explores sculpture, notably using Styrodur — a construction material — which she transforms with creativity. This contrast between raw matter and refined aesthetics perfectly illustrates her desire to create a dialogue between the living world, the fragility of nature and the infinite possibilities of artistic expression.

In her work, animals occupy a central place. More than subjects, they are the messengers of an ecosystem in danger. The artist speaks with clarity about the excesses of a modern world that, by endlessly exploiting natural resources, threatens the planet’s fragile balance. Her painting Apocalypse climatique (2018) has become a manifesto: it reveals the disastrous consequences of global warming, the threat weighing on oceans, species and biodiversity. This visual warning continues in works such as Si les mers meurent, nous mourrons aussi, Trop tard and Bon appétit — all calls for awareness, filled with emotion and lucidity.

But Steffi Rodigas’ message is not limited to warning. Her art is also an ode to the beauty of the living world. Through her canvases, she conveys energy, tenderness and a sincere sense of wonder toward nature. “My inspiration comes from my deep love for nature and animals. If the viewer of my artistic work feels this passion, then I’ve achieved everything!” she says. Each painting thus becomes an invitation to see differently, to feel, to be moved and to take action.

Steffi Rodigas’ commitment has resonated widely on the international stage. Her works were exhibited in New York during Earth Day 2022, where she was honoured with the ATIM’s Top 60 Masters Award and the Faces of Peace Award. Other prestigious distinctions have marked her journey: the Leonardo da Vinci Award in Milan, the Donatello and Botticelli Prizes in Florence, the Michelangelo Prize in Rome, the Zeus Award in Lecce, the Pegasus Prize in Venice, the Carrière Artistique Award in San Remo… Her name now stands among the major figures of socially engaged contemporary art.

In 2023, she published her own book, Kunst – Leidenschaft – Emotionen (Art – Passion – Emotions), which brings together her biography and 145 of her major works. An exceptional volume that retraces her life path, her stylistic evolution, and her ability to transform indignation into light. For Steffi Rodigas, art is never gratuitous: it is movement, awareness, emotion. And it is this sincerity that touches, questions and resonates with an ever-growing and devoted audience.

TESTIMONIALS

I discovered the artist Steffi Rodigas through a newspaper article, and we quickly arranged a meeting. In a warm and welcoming atmosphere — with kind and thoughtful advice — she presented a selection of animal paintings from all over the world, knowing how much I love animals. It was a tough decision, but in the end, three paintings came home with me, filling my living room with joy and finding their perfect place. They certainly won’t be the last… I just need to save up a little more!
