Sidonie is a girl from the South… born in the East. A girl from the South, because everything in her paintings breathes sunlight, dreams and the sweetness of life. Sweetness in its purest form, for a work by Sidonie transforms any interior: it infuses a luminous energy, a breath of love and simplicity, like an outstretched hand or a discreet embrace. But before daring the blank canvas, there was a journey. That of a little girl born in Besançon, in this city crossed by the Doubs — a river her child’s eyes followed from her bedroom window, as one follows a dream or an intuition. It was there, in this childhood shaped by water and coloured pencils, that her attachment to Snoopy was born — her favourite character, a faithful companion decorating her pencil case and the porcelain mugs from which she drank her hot chocolate.
Very early on, she preferred colourful little drawings to school lessons, filling her notebooks with them. This love for joyful, intuitive repetition of shapes led her to ESMOD, where she chose to study materials: touching fabrics, assembling them, reinventing them. The creative gesture was already there, within reach.
