Pierre Bayet

A passionate self-taught artist, Pierre Bayet — also known as π Rdessins — is a Belgian artist born in 1962 in Hotton. He is not one of those who claim to be “born an artist,” but one who becomes one through discipline and perseverance. “Not being a born artist, I turned to drawing. I’m a perfectionist, and I like being able to reproduce every detail captured by a high-quality photograph,” he explains with humility. His vocation began almost by chance at a comic book festival in 2019. By closely observing the illustrators at the event “De Bulles en Bulles,” he decided to embark on his own artistic path. His first drawing would be Hogwarts Castle, universally recognised by Harry Potter fans.

It marked the beginning of a new passion, fuelled by the pleasure of realism, a love of detail and the precision of the line. His guiding principle: realism and precision. At Christmas that same year, a set of coloured pencils received as a gift opened a new chapter in his journey: colour would now enrich his previously monochrome drawings.

In 2020, Pierre Bayet exhibited for the first time in a printing house in Marche-en-Famenne, showcasing works inspired by heritage and nature. The following year, he explored new themes — musical instruments, flowers, animals, traditional trades — and experimented with watercolour while continuing to refine his drawing technique. A transformative trip to Florence reinforced his direction: full focus on detail, to the point of near-obsession. This visual rigour became his signature. Vehicles, a previously unseen theme in his work, suddenly entered his compositions and met with immediate success.

One of his drawings was even included in a collective mural for Expo Metro in Los Angeles — a milestone that marked Pierre Bayet’s entry into the international art scene. In 2022, he received official certification of his artist rating from Jacques-Armand Akoun, a true mark of professional recognition. That same year, he was awarded the Coup de Cœur of Figurative Art. In 2023, he won the Originality Prize at Miss and Mister’Art Expo.

With more than 200 drawings to his name, Pierre Bayet continues to surprise. Retired, yes — but among the most dedicated of active artists, he has turned his almost surgical precision into a signature. A former soldier, he never gave in to boredom. He draws with the enthusiasm of his early days, convinced that there is no age to begin and no age to stop.

TESTIMONIALS

Bravo Pierre, and congratulations on such a promising start! Keep that desire to draw alive — and above all, enjoy yourself, because that’s the greatest reward of all. Like you, I’m self-taught. I used to draw when I was younger, but professional life left me little time for it. I rediscovered the joy after retiring, and my passion for seascapes and old sailing ships is still going strong. Wishing you a wonderful end of the year!

I really love your work — Saint Michael’s Bridge in Ghent is beautifully done, with a truly delightful subject. I’d love to have it, frame it, and enjoy it every day — especially since I’ve never had the chance to visit beautiful Belgium. I wasn’t familiar with your other pieces, which are also incredibly impressive — I’ve been browsing through them. I took a closer look, and honestly, I love them all. But I wanted to ask: is “Gears of Time” also available?
