Philippe Valy was born in Sanary-sur-Mer, in the south of France, but it is across the world that he shaped the contours of an exceptional artistic career. In the late 1980s, he settled on the island of Saint Martin, where his paintings met with immediate success — “They sold like hot cakes,” he recalls. In 1993, Valy crossed the Atlantic and moved to the United States. There, he exhibited in prestigious galleries and built an international reputation. Painter, designer, sculptor, jewellery and fashion creator, he developed a singular universe at the crossroads of avant-garde, surrealism and symbolism.
His style is unmistakable: bold colours, geometric forms, dreamlike details and a liberated expressiveness. He masters the gesture, plays with material and meaning. Mixed media, large-format canvases, transformed objects… Valy forbids himself nothing. Through each work, he delivers a vision, an emotion, sometimes a provocation — always driven by an unapologetic artistic sincerity.
