Born in 1957 in the Swiss Jura, Patrick Egger is a self-taught artist whose path follows not the straight lines of academia but the more winding ones of nature, silence and observation. Trained as a forestry engineer, then a physics and mathematics teacher, he has always maintained an intimate relationship with the landscape. Yet it was only on the threshold of retirement that he truly took up the paintbrush — as one embraces a vital need long held back.
He spent his childhood in the grandiose scenery of the Jura, wandering alone through valleys, ridges and forests, beneath the ever-changing light of the seasons. This constant immersion in nature forged a deep, almost spiritual connection with the mountains, the trees and the skies — a connection that painting would later, naturally, extend.
