Kamien Cholewinski

Art Collect Store - Kamien Cholewinski

Born in 1991 in Briey, in the heart of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Kamien Cholewinski grew up in an atmosphere where art, transmission, and the act of looking at the world formed a living constellation. His grandfather was a decorative painter, his father an amateur photographer inspired by his years spent in French Polynesia during his military service. From an early age, the curious child absorbed this family universe, rich in images and stories, where artistic sensitivity became an instinctive, almost self-evident inheritance. “Since childhood, I have lived surrounded by Art,” he says. “The lineage took shape naturally.”

Yet photography was not his immediate path. Kamien first explored the field of healthcare — a serious, altruistic direction — before finally yielding to what truly lived within him: a growing passion for imagery, staging, and the narrative power of light. In 2020, he took the leap and trained in Luxembourg with fashion photographer Sails Chong during a professional workshop. This decisive moment marked the beginning of an intense creative journey shaped by powerful influences.

With Kamien Cholewinski, an image is never neutral. It is choreographed like a mental ballet, poised between light and shadow, between aesthetic intuition and intellectual exploration. Influenced by photographers such as Nick Knight, Chris Knight, David LaChapelle, Awamu Moja, and Ali Mahdavi, he also draws inspiration from the films of Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Dario Argento, and Nicolas Winding Refn. For him, photography becomes a limitless field of exploration: “A perfect unveiling that allows the extraction of what is most luminous — and most dark — within the soul.”

Fascinated by modern mythologies, visual dreamscapes, gothic worlds, and the dualities of human nature, Kamien cultivates a hybrid style — both baroque and contemporary. He infuses into it his love for music (particularly that of Jonathan Davis), fantastic literature (Anne Rice, Stephen King, Maxime Chattam…), design, architecture, color, and symbolism. At the crossroads of all these realms, his photography does more than illustrate — it questions, provokes, and elevates.

His work quickly established itself on the contemporary art scene. In 2023, he was awarded multiple distinctions: the Leonardo Da Vinci Prize in Milan, the Donatello Prize in Florence, the Pegasus Prize in Venice, the Michelangelo Prize in Rome… Honors that celebrate his vision, boldness, and singularity. That same year, he became a finalist for the Luxembourg Art Prize and joined the Excellence Art Gallery in Marbella, Spain.

Since then, he has exhibited throughout Europe — in Italy, Malta, Monaco, Luxembourg — both in solo shows and collective exhibitions. Series such as Monarchie Révolutionnaire or Carrosse Royal reveal his pleasure in subverting codes, disrupting representations, and blending classical nobility with the provocations of a contemporary gaze.

Kamien Cholewinski defines himself in these words: “Fundamentally, I am like a creative child in a multidimensional candy store.” Through each photograph, he probes our relationship to the body, identity, and the spectacle of the world. The image becomes a stage, a symbolic mirror, a springboard into imagination. “My art is there to shock, make people think, create emotions, interact with the viewer. It is about teasing the gaze through different prisms to question humanity, society, and the individual.”
