Claire Morand

Claire Morand Valenti was born in Nice in 1967. Initially a clinical psychologist, she spent over twenty years supporting children in difficulty. This path of listening, attention, and sensitivity could have remained her sole vocation. But one morning, on her way to a school, she crossed paths with Céline Aversenq from Mille Plumes publishing. Moved by the delicacy of her line, Aversenq invited her to illustrate children’s books.

From then on, she became an illustrator for children’s books. She works mainly with acrylics, drawn to the spontaneity of the medium. Her palette, like her graphic language, is equally comfortable in detail or deliberate blur — as luminous as it is soft, as expansive as it is meticulous. Above all, she seeks to immerse herself in the author’s world, to absorb the story and translate its emotion through her brush.

Her work has brought to life several titles, including *Les Nouvelles de Châteauneuf*, *Le Berger aux abeilles* by Jocelyne Marque, *Emma* by Marianne Deliht, and *Les santons s’échappent* in collaboration with Fernand Gasiglia. Her landscapes oscillate between naïveté and realism; her flower fields stretch to the horizon; her animals glow with bright colors, like childhood memories healed. Nature, ever-present, becomes a visual poem — each painting seeking that light we sense beyond the horizon, where the unknown and the after reside.
