Anval

Abstract art is, for me, the natural way to express my emotions.
Art Collect Store - Annie anval

Born in Béziers in 1951, Annie Valat has always moved between two callings: caring and creating. Trained as a nurse, she has also nurtured a lifelong passion for painting, which she began exploring in Languedoc art studios in the 1980s. There, she discovered the graphic and plastic arts, learned to handle pigments, and to listen to the impulses of the soul through matter.

Under her artist name Anval, she expresses herself authentically within the movement of “sensitive abstraction.” Over the years, she has deepened her practice through workshops in Béziers and Nice, as well as classes with the renowned watercolorist Alain Marc. This intuitive training has shaped her style — free, emotional, and instinctive.

In Anval’s works, the canvas becomes a territory of emotion. The artist lays down her inner vibrations, her states of mind, her flashes of inspiration. She works with raw materials — sand, modeling paste, paper, minerals — before applying color as if placing fragments of her soul. Each painting is a resonance, an inner space made visible. As she herself says: “Painting serves as an outlet for my emotions. When I paint, I come into vibration with my soul.” Her titles — *Plénitude*, *Awakening*, *Embrasement* — evoke this journey between tension and serenity, intuition and elevation. Each of Anval’s works is thus a fragment of a universe, an open doorway into imaginary landscapes that anyone can make their own.

Gradually, her work has captivated a wider audience. She exhibits in France — in Nice and Cannes — but also internationally: Italy, California, New York, Monaco. Awards have followed: First Grand Jury Prize in Nice, Abstract Art Prize in Menton, Silver Medal in Beausoleil, and official recognition by Akoun and Drouot. This recognition confirms the strength of her pictorial gesture. For Anval, to create is to share a space of intimacy, to invite others to feel rather than to understand. She paints what words cannot express — the metamorphoses of being, the movements of the soul, the beauty that rises from chaos. Her works do not describe: they vibrate, they live.

TESTIMONIALS

Atypical and multifaceted, Anval is an artist who never ceases to surprise with her eclecticism. Her works often appear soft and luminous, yet they can suddenly shift toward darkness and intensity. The former draw us into an interstellar galaxy tinged with dreams and mystery, while the latter reflect a world gone mad — evoking fire, storms, even cataclysm. This contrast reveals a strong-willed temperament, unafraid to rebel against human excesses and the whims of nature — as seen in her striking piece Tempête. To discover the work of Annie Valat is to take a bold step into a blazing universe, where the imagination finds refuge in a surreal, soothing world.
