Ana Santos

Art Collect - Ana-Paula-Dos-Santos

Ana Paula Dos Santos, known as Ana Santos, was born in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. A military police officer in Paraná, she has been serving in Foz do Iguaçu for nearly sixteen years. Her path toward art did not follow an academic route, but one of faith. One Sunday at church, she was deeply moved by the voice of a young girl singing. Wishing to praise God with the same grace, Ana prayed to receive that gift. That night, she dreamt that her aunt, a visual artist, handed her a paintbrush and some paint. Upon waking, she turned to God: “I asked You for a voice — will You give me a paintbrush instead?”

From that moment on, Ana began dreaming of brushes, colors, and creations. This language of the soul revealed itself as a spiritual calling. Her aunt encouraged her to follow this inner voice, teaching her the essential gestures — the first impulses. Ana began to paint. Creating became a form of silent prayer, an inner dialogue. Her first inspired painting, Blood Moon, marked a turning point. After several attempts on paper, she managed to capture her vision on a 60 x 80 cm canvas. “Painting rewrites the way I see and feel life,” she says today.

Her artistic vocation is rooted in emotion, gratitude, and faith. She draws her inspiration from nature and simple elements — a flower, a star, a reflection on the sea, a ray of light. Her work as a police officer, often exposed to the harshness of the world, finds a healing counterbalance in painting. “The outside world ceases to exist. Anger and sadness vanish when I pick up my brushes.” Ana Santos paints to transcend — to transform pain into beauty, to convey a message of peace and resilience.

Self-taught, she embraces mixed techniques and explores a wide range of materials: sand, leaves, glass, acrylic paste. She paints with whatever she finds at hand — brushes, rollers, spatulas, and sometimes even kitchen utensils. Solitary Tree combines sand and dried foliage with acrylic. Beauty of Colors was created using a wall paint roller. In Seasons, she merges leaves, PVC, spray paint, and acrylic. Hidden, crafted with a spatula, reveals the full expressiveness of her medium. And Blood Moon remains one of her jewels — a work vibrating with mystery and power.

For Ana Santos, painting is an act of gratitude toward the Creator. On her large canvases, she depicts what reflects life and its beauty — joy, emotion, the seasons of the soul. Her works speak of what remains unspoken. They give voice to the silence of hearts. They invite us to see the world differently.
