Aline Bernard

“Art does not explain, it expresses in strokes the silence of feeling.” — Kheira Chakor
Art Collect - Aline-Bernard

Settled in Cannes for the past twenty years, Aline Bernard follows a double trajectory: that of a professional engaged in urban mobility and that, more intimate, of an artist in perpetual exploration. A self-taught painter born in Mulhouse in 1974, she fully embraced her artistic path in 2017. Very quickly, her work attracted attention: dynamic, hybrid, and free.

She combines painting, aerosols, collage, aluminum, and fiber, even repurposing old road signs as supports for expression. This choice is far from incidental: it embodies her determination to root her practice in tangible reality, while infusing it with a sense of dream, movement, and critique. Her style oscillates between pixelism, surrealism, street art, and kinetic art, like a sensory cartography of our time.

For Aline, painting means diving between the real and the unreal. She seeks to capture what slips away, what fades, what remains. She explores, improvises, starts again, and renews herself. In her series Virtual Humanity, which earned her the Jury Prize at the Cannes Basin Festival of Talents in 2021, she questions the disembodiment of the human being in favor of an overwhelming digital reality. The pixel here becomes living matter, a witness to an era of transitions. In another series, Reinterpret Your Classics, she playfully extracts emblematic characters from iconic works to reinsert them into new visual narratives. She does not copy, she replays. She does not reproduce, she rereads. In Cannes Signalée, old rusted road signs change their status: from functional objects, they become vibrant canvases, reflections of a city in perpetual transformation.

Always, light, movement, contrasts. And this tension between structure and imagination, between mastered technique and raw instinct.

“The world speaks to me. So I paint the images it inspires. My paintings are not answers, but a way of asking questions,” she confides.

Aline Bernard also paints on commission, yet never dilutes the intensity of her approach. Each time, it is about creating a unique work, crossed by the breath of the world and the inner pulse.
