Islaablack

Yana, also known as islaablack, is a unique digital artist who likes to define herself as “the author of her own Universe.” Born in Siberia and raised in Moscow, she arrived in France at the age of eleven, leaving behind the rigor of the great cold to discover the gentle contrasts of the Hexagon. A curious and introspective teenager, she lived in several French cities before spending time in Florence, Italy — a place where art seems to breathe on every corner. There, in the heart of the Tuscan city, she first felt the seed of an inner world she longed to express visually.

In Strasbourg, she chose digital illustration as her means of expression. There, she pursued specialized training which became, in her words, the starting point for realizing her artistic ambitions. Since then, she has continuously refined her technique, expanded her imagination, and brought to life what silently vibrates within her. She now lives in Beausoleil, near Monaco — a place where light, sea, and Mediterranean landscapes echo poetically with her Siberian past.

But above all, it is her profound inner sensitivity that led her to creation. Islaablack draws intimate digital portraits inspired by her deepest emotions and by everything words cannot express. “I’m truly inspired by what touches me from within and what words cannot describe,” she confides. Her art becomes a space for translating the unspoken — a way of interpreting the world, and above all, faces.

Among her influences, she cites Laura H. Rubin, Loish, and the world of Japanese animation — aesthetics that have nourished her while allowing her own style to emerge with subtle grace. Her personalized portraits are not mere representations: they capture the very essence of a being — their gaze, their light, their memory. They beautify without betraying, idealize without erasing. She explains: “What I love about art is the interconnectedness of the world around us through the prism of a person and all of their experiences. (…) That’s why I’m particularly drawn to portraits.

The universe of islaablack oscillates between the real and the imaginary. Each work tells a visual story — sometimes inspired by a personal narrative, sometimes born from pure invention. Dream and intimacy converse there, as do symbol and emotion. For behind every illustration lies a single intent: to touch the heart, awaken resonance, and offer a world in which everyone can find a fragment of themselves. “We are all reflections of one another,” she says. Her art, in this sense, is a mirror — but a poetic, gentle, introspective one. A suspended world, shaped by digital light and the humanity of the gaze.
