Catherine Cayssials

A self-taught painter born into an artistic family in Albi, Catherine Cayssials carries within her an instinctive, joyful, and free passion for painting. For over 25 years, she has made colors dance on her canvases as one celebrates life. Her source of inspiration? Nature, always. A vibrant, overflowing nature, reborn with every brushstroke.

For Catherine, nature is not a backdrop but a presence — an energy. “Nature manifests itself as a living, vital, irrepressible substance,” she says. On her canvases, one can feel it breathe, whisper, and quiver. The viewer almost imagines the scent of the blooming landscapes she paints — a miracle of synesthesia where colors become fragrances and forms become emotions.

While her style remains figurative, it breaks free from the constraints of realism. Catherine Cayssials explores the boundary between reality and dream. She paints nature as a living, generous being — constantly evolving, with shifting hues and lush foliage, always in a profusion of joy. “I free myself from the logic of description; I feel nature from within.” This freedom defines her artistic signature.

After exploring figures, animals, landscapes, and flowers, she now focuses her work on vegetation — exuberant, protective, almost spiritual vegetation that seems to spring from the canvas to embrace the viewer. Each piece is an invitation to active contemplation, a sensory and emotional immersion.

Recognition soon followed. Catherine Cayssials has received several honorary distinctions, including the Silver Medal at the International Exhibition of Cannes (2012), the Pewter Medal from Arts Sciences Lettres (2015), the Silver Medal from the International Academy of Merit and French Devotion (2017), and another Silver Medal from Arts-Sciences-Lettres (2021). In 2022, she appeared twice on the cover of Art et Design magazine and received the Art Design Honorary Award at the Art Show Paris XIII.

But beyond awards, what truly matters to her is the silent emotion born in the eyes of those who look. Art, like nature, breathes with others — and it is in that shared breath that true beauty is born.
